BURY & DISTRICT LEAGUE

After the disappointment of  relegation last year, the Ixworth team made up for it this season by winning every game in the second division and comfortably winning the division.  It was a tremendous performance and shows that with the right commitment we are a difficult team to beat.  With the closest game being won by 4.5pts to 1.5, it shows the dominance of our team.   All we need to do now is carry it forward to the challenge of Division One next year.

At the Bury and District League Finals, which were held at British Sugar BC, some excellent bowling saw  Pat Jennings and Ann Lilley Complete a treble as they added the League Pairs title to their County and National success in the Ladies Pairs.  Ann also won  the Ladies singles with a tight victory over Joan Blowers (Hengrave BC) and the Over 60’s ladies singles, beating her partner from earlier in the day  Pat Jennings.  Pat won her second title of the day with Partner Gwyn Chambers, as they saw off the challenge of  Mother and Son team Joan and Alan Blowers in the Mixed  Pairs.

Aubrey Rogers lost in the final of  the Mens over 60’s singles to an in-form John Goldsmith from St. Eds.,  while John Chambers and Errol Feavearyear lost in the Mens Pairs, although 11-0 down early in the game, they went into the final end level, losing to an excellent final delivery by opposing skip David Fulton (St.Eds).

Well done to all the Ixworth bowlers, both winners and losers; as a result of reaching and in some cases winning competitions Ixworth once again won the Victor Ludorum.

WEST SUFFOLK LEAGUE

A  highly creditable mid table position was achieved in a league that is restricted to male players.  The competition is strong in this league where we meet some clubs who only play the Bowls England version of the game in Suffolk leagues.

NATIONAL FINALS

Once again the club was represented at the National EBF Finals in Skegness.  Ann Lilley made it through in the 4 Bowl Singles, losing at the Semi-final stage, and in the Senior Singles where she lost by one shot in the first round, but with partner Pat Jennings they won the National Title in the Ladies Pairs.
STOWMARKET LEAGUE

In their first season in Division Two the  the Stowmarket League team under the captaincy of Mark Methven managed to retain their second division status by the skin of their teeth.  The difference in quality between the two divisions is considerable and they must be congratulated on their season.
